SBR Assist

Bringing the right experts together to help businesses navigate financial challenges.

SBR Assist was established by Giulio Avian, Founder of Fundsnational, and Leo Iermano, a former ATO professional, after recognising that businesses experiencing financial difficulties often require more than simply accessing finance.

Spearheaded by Leo Iermano, SBR Assist was created to help business owners navigate complex ATO debt and financial restructuring challenges by coordinating access to experienced accountants, registered tax agents, insolvency practitioners and legal professionals.

The objective is simple: bring the right experts together to assess the business's circumstances, explore available options and develop an appropriate pathway forward.

  • Accountants
  • Registered tax agents
  • Insolvency practitioners
  • Legal professionals
Finance is only one part of the solution.

Where funding is required to support an agreed strategy, Fundsnational may assist with exploring suitable finance options.

Disclosure

SBR Assist Pty Ltd and Fundsnational Pty Ltd operate as separate legal entities but share a common director. Fundsnational Pty Ltd does not provide taxation, legal or insolvency advice, which must be obtained from appropriately qualified professionals.

Business & tax debt

Funding that helps business owners resolve ATO debt, once the right experts have a plan in place.

ATO debt · SBR

$130,000 ATO debt resolved through a funded Small Business Restructure

$130kATO debt at peak
$65kFunding required
14 daysTo unconditional approval
The situation
A construction business owner's ATO debt grew from around $60,000 to $130,000 after a previous accountant mishandled the business's tax compliance. Once the debt passed $100,000 it could be reported to credit bureaus, and a Director Penalty Notice set a hard deadline.
What we did
A Small Business Restructure was the right path, needing $65,000 to cover the SBR payment and administrator fees. We arranged private funding secured against equity in the client's home (valued at around $785,000 with a $220,000 mortgage).
The outcome
Funding was unconditional in 14 days, ahead of the DPN deadline. The SBR was completed, the ATO debt resolved, and the administrator's fees and outstanding super were cleared in one step.
ATO debt · Business recovery

From the brink of insolvency to long-term stability

The situation
After COVID-19 hit their building business, a client faced mounting cash flow problems, growing tax debts and creditor pressure. The business and the family home were both at risk.
What we did
First, we arranged funding to support a Small Business Restructure and pay out a caveat loan that was straining cash flow. Six months later, with the business recovering, we refinanced the first and second mortgages and several work vehicles, with extra funds for equipment.
The outcome
The client moved from short-term distress to a sustainable repayment structure, keeping both the business and the family home.
ATO debt · Late lodgements

Jane & Colin: consolidating a tax debt into the home loan

The situation
Jane and Colin run a successful printing business. After a difficult period, two years of BAS and tax returns went unlodged, and once their accountant caught up they faced a sizeable ATO debt.
What we did
Their accountant's review showed the business was profitable, so we refinanced their property and combined the mortgage and tax debt into one loan.
The outcome
One manageable loan, with the tax debt cleared and repayments the business could comfortably cover.

Home loans

Home loans for people whose income or history doesn't fit a bank's checklist.

Self-employed

Joanne & Geoff: refinancing with 12 months of ABN

The situation
Joanne and Geoff had run their own bakery for just over a year and wanted to refinance to expand. The bank declined them because it needed two years of trading history.
What we did
We secured a loan based on 12 months of ABN, supported by their clean credit history and strong cash flow.
The outcome
Approved at a competitive rate comparable to the big banks, so they could buy a larger oven and hire an apprentice.
Unusual employment

Andrea: a home loan while on probation

The situation
Andrea started a new role as an Accounts and Administration Officer. The bank told her to wait until she had passed probation and been employed for six months.
What we did
We matched her with a lender that looks at her actual employment situation rather than a fixed waiting period.
The outcome
Andrea got her home loan without delay, at a competitive rate.
Poor credit

James: refinancing after a divorce with nine defaults

The situation
While James's divorce was being finalised, joint bills went unpaid and nine defaults were listed on his credit file. The bank declined his refinance.
What we did
With his strong employment history and a clean record of mortgage repayments, we showed he could afford a refinance that paid out every default.
The outcome
All defaults paid off and the property settlement finalised, with James keeping the house.

Property & investment

Structuring finance across property portfolios when the situation is complex.

Property portfolio · ATO debt

$852,000 ATO debt and a wind-up notice, with three properties kept intact

$1.67MFacility arranged
63%LVR
12 monthsBack to a mainstream lender
The situation
A self-employed client had an $852,000 ATO debt and a formal wind-up notice. Two of their three properties were in arrears ($22,000), with $35,000 in unpaid council rates. Total debts were $1.47M against around $2.5M in assets.
What we did
We structured a $1,667,750 private facility on a seven-month prepaid interest term, clearing the ATO debt, the mortgage arrears and the council rates in one settlement, with the exit to a mainstream lender mapped out from day one.
The outcome
The wind-up notice was extinguished and, within 12 months, the client refinanced into a mainstream loan without selling a single property.

Debt restructuring

Bringing multiple debts into one manageable repayment.

Debt consolidation · After liquidation

$641,000 refinance consolidates four debts after a liquidation

$641kRefinance approved
In fullAll debts cleared
4 → 1Debts into one loan
The situation
A couple whose company had been liquidated were now in PAYG work, but carried a mortgage, a Part 10 personal insolvency agreement, an ATO debt and a high-rate caveat loan, totalling $641,000. Mainstream lenders couldn't help.
What we did
We reviewed their income, property and repayment capacity, built a clear long-term exit strategy, and found a specialist lender with appetite for prior insolvency history.
The outcome
A $641,000 refinance was approved, clearing all four debts in full and replacing them with one principal and interest loan and a clear repayment plan.
Debt consolidation

Grant & Trish: from maxed-out cards to one repayment

The situation
When two builders Grant relied on stopped trading, this plumbing business used personal credit cards to cover costs. The business recovered, but servicing the home loan and maxed-out cards was a struggle.
What we did
We showed them the true cost of their current debts and consolidated everything into one loan with one repayment.
The outcome
Lower interest costs and better monthly cash flow for the family and the business.
Financial hardship

Peter & Monique: back on track after job loss

The situation
After Peter lost his job, the family relied on short-term loans and credit cards for everyday living costs.
What we did
Once Peter was back at work, we negotiated the credit card debts and consolidated what remained into their home loan.
The outcome
A lower overall interest rate and a monthly saving that adds up to thousands of dollars.
